DeVonta Smith 2021 NFL Draft landing spot No. 3: New York Giants

Some people would argue that the New York Giants have problems on offense that extend beyond the wide receiver position. Quarterback Daniel Jones has not necessarily been the player many had hoped he’d be when they drafted him in the top 10 and that’s undoubtedly a concern worth noting and potentially correcting.

Having said that, for the Giants to fully evaluate what they have in Jones, they need to put the pieces around him for to succeed. That not only includes a healthy season with running back Saquon Barkley behind him but it also means giving the former Duke standout viable pass-catching weapons instead of the hodgepodge group that currently exists for Big Blue.

Yes, Darius Slayton has flashed some big potential but, with Sterlin Shepard’s issues with help and the inconsistency of aging veteran Golden Tate, there is little around him. That’s why Smith would be such a natural fit in the Giants offense.

The Alabama star showing up in New York, much like it would in Detroit, would allow Slayton to succeed in the areas where he’s best suited while also giving Jones another top-tier option to target. At the end of the day, Smith would be a weapon that would give Jones the best chance to succeed or, at worst, to indicate that the Giants need to look for other answers at quarterback.
