DeVonta Smith 2021 NFL Draft landing spot No. 2: New England Patriots

This wasn’t intentional but we have another team on this list that has a bit of uncertainty looming at quarterback when we look at the New England Patriots. While early indications were that Cam Newton would be an adequate replacement for Tom Brady under Bill Belichick, that ultimately turned out to not be the case in Foxborough.

Subsequently, the Patriots are now left searching for more answers at the position. It remains to be seen if those answers include Jarrett Stidham, the 2021 NFL Draft itself or even an option on the trade market. However, the issues at wide receiver are problematic for whoever is at quarterback.

With Julian Edelman clearly on the downslope of his career and N’Keal Harry looking like a first-round bust, Jakobi Meyers is the only wide receiver on the roster that the Patriots should feel confident in. And even then, he’s a former undrafted free agent who, although talented, has a defined ceiling.

Drafting DeVonta Smith would put the new quarterback in New England in a great position. His ability to work on all levels of the field will give Belichick and Josh McDaniels a versatile and dangerous weapon that allows whoever is the signal-caller to finally have a reliable option.
