Cleveland Browns 7-round 2021 NFL mock draft after heartbreaking loss to Chiefs
Back to the defensive line where the Browns are potentially set to lose a number of depth pieces, Cleveland elects to bolster that unit with the selection of Haskell Garrett here. Keeping him in the state of Ohio, Garrett is not an elite athlete or pass-rusher but he’s a strong people-mover on the interior. Not only could he be a nice run plug for this team but he could also help create space for the more dynamic playmakers on the line.
After just one offseason of work, this franchise has dramatically changed the fortunes of the offensive line. Assuming they can re-sign Wyatt Teller to a lucrative new deal, the starters in front of Mayfield and Chubb are likely set. But they do need to mine for more depth.
Brady Christensen isn’t a world-beater, hence why he’s available in the fourth round. However, he’s an experienced player who, with some NFL strength and conditioning program behind him, should be able to plug in as depth should injuries occur.
Continuing to add to the defensive end group, Patrick Johnson appears to be a player who is simply being undervalued a bit. Highly productive at Tulane, the edge rusher has a ton of juice when he’s asked to get after the quarterback. He doesn’t possess ideal length and will need to be technical to combat offensive linemen trying to take advantage of that at the NFL level. But in terms of depth at the position, having a player with the explosiveness of Johnson is a good thing.
And what do you know, more defensive line depth for Cleveland. However, that’s exactly what they need with their current situation and Ray could be a nice asset for them. A mountain of a man coming out of Alabama, the longtime Crimson Tide standout isn’t much of a pass-rusher but the 6-5, 292-pounder is a bull in the run game and can eat up space with the best of them. He won’t ever be an every-down player but he could be a serviceable run package option.
Double-dipping at another position, I love the notion of adding a player like Marquez Stevenson to the mix of the Browns offense. He showcased a ton of versatility while at Houston and has speed and quickness to make plays.
We’ve seen that Kevin Stefanski is unafraid to get his wide receivers involved in creative ways and he could have a lot of fun with Stevenson in that regard. The Houston product needs to fill out his lower frame a bit more to withstand the rigors of the pro game but his upside is apparent, especially as a late-round selection.
