Miami Dolphins perfect draft fit No. 4: Javonte Williams, RB, North Carolina

Part of ensuring Tua’s success going forward is giving him a running back to elevate their anemic running game. The Dolphins finished 21st in rushing offense and averaged 3.9 yards per attempt. Myles Gaskins proved to be a solid option and a reliable pass-catcher, but the Fins need something more.

Dolphin fans want the franchise to pick Najee Harris and for good reason. With the need for a dynamic linebacker, however, they should wait to draft a running back. North Carolina’s Javonta Williams is no constellation prize. He can bring that missing element to the Miami backfield.

The former Tar Heel runner is dangerous — just ask the Miami Hurricanes. Williams exploded their defensive back en route to 236 yards and three touchdowns, capping off his stellar season. At 5-11, 220 pounds, he’s more than just raw power. He sets up his blockers, shows good vision and hits the hole with authority. He’s a one-cut runner who doesn’t need extra time to get going.

His tenacious running style makes him tough to bring down. In the open field, he has enough speed to take it the distance. On third downs, he’s shown soft hands and the ability to pass block. Williams is a creative power back with added value on third downs, a perfect fit for the Fins at No. 36.
