New England Patriots: 3 Lessons learned from Super Bowl LV
2. Defense can still lead to championships
As we saw throughout the course of the entire game between Tampa Bay and Kansas City in Super Bowl LV, defenses can still lead to championships while holding a top-notch offense in check.
Over the course of the last few seasons in the NFL, the thought of a dominant defense has been overshadowed or maybe even over-prioritized with featuring a top-tier offenses unit on the other side of the ball.

In The Big Game on Sunday, however, Tampa Bay put a show that displayed why defenses should still be valued and just how big of an impact a solid defensive performance can make during the course of a game.
The Buccaneers came into the Super Bowl with the task of having to shut down Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City offense, a group that is arguably the best in the league and can run up the score at any point in a contest. Tampa Bay ended the game holding the Chiefs offense to a total of 243 passing yards and no touchdowns through the air, along with 107 yards and no touchdowns on the ground. The Buccaneers held the best offense in the NFL to just nine points.
The good news for the Patriots is that they still have one of the best defensive groups in that portion of the depth chart, which is something New England should focus on keeping intact and carrying into the 2021 season and beyond.
Even when the team is struggling on offense, the Patriots defense has put itself in a position to win games on a weekly basis. As we say in the Super Bowl, that can be used as a winning formula, even on the league’s biggest stage.
