Cleveland Browns dream free agency target No. 4: Chris Godwin, WR

Coming off a Super Bowl LV victory with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Chris Godwin is set to hit the free agency market after Tampa Bay did not offer the receiver an extension when he was eligible in 2019. While Godwin’s statistics showed a drop in 2020, NFL fans should not forget his 2019 breakout year in which the second-team All-Pro and Pro-Bowl selection posted 86 receptions for 1,333 yards and nine touchdowns.

With the signing of the much cheaper option of Antonio Brown to the Buccaneer and the deep receiving corps in Tampa Bay, do not be surprised to see Godwin enter free agency. If he does, Cleveland needs to pursue him quickly.

Losing Odell Beckham Jr. to an ACL injury early in the 2020 season, the Browns proved their deep threat is not quite where it needs to be with the likes of rookie Donovan Peoples-Jones and KhaDarel Hodge.

Moving on from Beckham Jr. and pursuing Godwin would likely offer the Browns a cheaper yet equally as talented option as opposed to paying the former the $15.7 million he is due in 2021. Signing Godwin to play alongside a stalwart like Jarvis Landry and Cleveland has its one-two punch in both its run game and its receiving game (and Browns fans could rest easy worrying if Beckham Jr. will be the same after a torn ACL).

If Cleveland felt like fielding its own “super-team,” they may even be inclined to roster Landry, Beckham and Godwin, though they may have to start printing their own money to do so.
