Dallas Cowboys: Dak Prescott

Point blank, it would be an absolute travesty for the Dallas Cowboys to let Dak Prescott leave this offseason. Moreover, it would be just as problematic if they didn’t sign him to a long-term contract (finally) this offseason. But in terms of the Week 1 starter, it’s going to be Prescott. Whether Dallas signs him to a deal that should’ve been inked two years ago or hits him with the franchise tag again, he’ll be the leader of the Cowboys offense.

New York Giants: Daniel Jones

More from NFL Spin Zone

For better or worse, Daniel Jones is going to be the starting quarterback for the New York Giants in Week 1 of the 2021 NFL season. The former first-round pick has continued to struggle to hold onto the ball and he has seemingly taken some steps back as well with more film on him available to study. Perhaps improving the pass-catching corps will help but something needs to get better for the Giants not to move on from Jones sooner rather than later.

Philadelphia Eagles: Jalen Hurts

In the immediate aftermath of trading Carson Wentz, the assumption was that Jalen Hurts had the starting job in Philadelphia locked up. But then came the reports that they would bring in competition for the second-year player.

For me, though, this should be Hurts’ job to lose. The sample size from him as a rookie was extremely limited but, overall, it was an impressive showing from the Oklahoma product. The Eagles have to see fully what they have in him and starting him in Week 1 is the best way to do that.

Washington Football Team: Taylor Heinicke

Make no mistake, this isn’t to say that the Washington Football Team isn’t going to address the quarterback position in the offseason. My expectation is that they look at someone like Trey Lance or even Mac Jones in the 2021 NFL Draft. The thing with that, though, is that neither player is ready to start in Week 1. As such, they’ll look to almost-playoff hero Taylor Heinicke, who the franchise re-signed this offseason, to open the season as the starting quarterback.
