Dynasty Fantasy Football rookie quarterback rankings: Tier 4

8. Jamie Newman – Georgia

Newman, after transferring from Wake Forest, elected to sit out the 2020 season due to COVID-19 concerns, deciding to focus on training and conditioning in preparation for this year’s NFL Draft. He offers nothing in the game film department, but potential suitors are enamored with his rushing ability.

Newman boasts an impressive highlight reel from his 2019 season at Wake Forest, but was understandably rusty during practices leading up to the 2021 Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama last month. Despite throwing a touchdown and completing 10 of 14 passes for 118 yards, he gained zero rushing yards on three attempts.

More from NFL Spin Zone

At 6-4 and 230 pounds, Newman offers above-average speed and mobility  We think he could be a great Day 3 selection for a team with long-term quarterback questions, making a nice, under-the-radar dynasty stash for those in Superflex or 2-QB leagues.

7. Kellen Mond – Texas A & M

Mond is a potential dual-threat quarterback and a carbon copy of Newman from a size and build perspective. Newman may be a step quicker than the 6-4, 225-pound Mond, but the latter put together a solid season and provided more than enough great film to show scouts and analysts a clear progression from a promising 2019.

Mond threw 19 touchdowns and only three interceptions in 2020, and saw his completion percentage (63.3 percent) rise for the third consecutive season. Mond, who tallied 22 rushing touchdowns in his college career, stayed in the pocket far more often in 2020; like Newman, Mond rushed for over 500 yards in 2019.

We won’t argue with anyone who ranks Newman ahead of Mond given the latter’s blue chip athleticism, but we give the Texas A&M standout the narrow edge in our rankings until further notice. Mond should be a Day 2 or Day 3 pick, with upside as an eventual NFL starter.
