Indianapolis Colts Round 4 draft fit: Jaelon Darden, WR, North Texas

The Colts have decent wide receivers, even if they don’t re-sign TY Hilton. Michael Pittman is a big target with contested-catch and YAC ability. Zach Pascal, who could be re-signed, is a reliable route-runner who can win downfield. And Dezmon Patton has potential as a big slot who can be a boundary and red-zone target.

Hilton leaving, however voids their offense of a speed threat. Sure, Parris Campbell is a speed demon but the former Ohio State star has struggled to stay on the field. So, the Colts still need some help to ensure Carson Wentz’s success. With the No. 118 pick, the Colts should have another small schooler on their radar: Jaelon Darden.

The former North Texas wideout is a big play waiting to happen. He’s small at 5-9, 170 pounds, but he’s electric. Refer to his 19 touchdowns in 2021. Darden has deep ball speed and elite short-area quickness. The Colts could find value in him as a screen option and getting him the ball in space.

Once he gets the ball in his hands, he’s a threat to take it the distance. He also has added value, thanks to his special teams ability. Wentz will need someone who can help get his confidence back; Darden can do that.
