2021 NFL Draft: 6 Prospects with biggest bust potential
5. Gregory Rousseau, EDGE, Miami
Who doesn’t want an elite pass rusher? The 2021 NFL Draft doesn’t have the type of edge rusher we’ve seen in past drafts. I’d hate to be a team forced to take a guy and plug him in year one. Something about this class reminds me of the 2013 draft class. If you don’t know, we saw Dion Jordan, Ezekiel Ansah and Barkevious Mingo come off the board with the first eight picks.
One of the better edge prospects in the 2021 NFL Draft is University of Miami edge rusher, Gregory Rousseau. Before opting out of the 2020 college football season, Rousseau’s name was mentioned as one of the top 10 prospects. The last time we saw the 6-6, 260-pound edge rusher, he totaled 19.5 tackles for loss and 15.5 sacks — but that was in 2019.
The kid is toolsy thanks to his length, athleticism and explosion off the edge. He’s flexible in terms of his ability to bend and dip underneath tackles, but that’s where it stops. The former wide receiver and defensive back is raw in terms of technique. He lacks ideal play strength and power teams want in an elite edge.
If he’s picked anywhere within the top 10-15, teams looking for a right-now starter won’t be happy. His value comes as a late-first, early second-round pick.
