New York Giants 7-round 2021 NFL mock draft post-Kenny Golladay signing
By Randy Gurzi
It was tempting to go with a cornerback in the first round but the value thay Azeez Ojulari offered was too much to pass on. The good news for the Giants is that they’re drafting high enough in the second round to still land a cornerback capable of starting rather early.
In this mock, that player is Kelvin Joseph out of Kentucky. Joseph is a player who doesn’t have a ton of experience but he proved he belonged in 2020. He played in just nine games for the Wildcats but had 25 tackles, four interceptions, and a touchdown on one of those picks.
He’s long (6-1 and 191 pounds) and can play press coverage. However, he will have some growing pains but could develop into something special.
Another area where the Giants can improve is at the middle linebacker spot. Reggie Ragland was added in free agency but he has yet to really live up to his second-round draft status. For that reason, New York takes Chazz Surratt here to build some depth and create competition.
Surratt was originally a quarterback for the Tarheels but moved to linebacker after two seasons. He racked up 115 tackles in 2019 and another 91 this past season. He understands how the offense wants to attack defenses and knows how to get after the football.
He’s still learning the position after making the switch which is encouraging since he’s already very good.
