- 18 forced fumbles
Best season 1989:
- 100 total tackles
- 11.5 sacks
- 3 fumbles recovered
Defensive end Jim Jeffcoats had so many productive seasons that it’s almost impossible to pinpoint his best one. While the task was difficult, his 1989 season was the one we went with as it was a jaw-dropper. On the year, Jeffcoats managed to get his hands on opposing ball carries a total of 100 times. He was also able to bully his defenders and make his way to the quarterback 11.5 times.
That 1989 season in particular is a head-scratcher in terms of how he wasn’t selected to the Pro Bowl. Outside of that standout year, however, Jeffcoat had plenty of other years that were beyond worthy, such as his 1986 season. During that campaign, Jeffcoats tormented quarterbacks for a career-high 14 sacks and managed to tackle defenders to the ground a total of 65 times.
The issue for Jeffcoat was that he played in an error where the talent was absolutely stacked. For instance, although many would classify Jeffcoats 1989 season as his best, it simply doesn’t compare to Reggie White. The all-world DE managed to rack up 123 total tackles and sacked the QB 11 times.
White also had other seasons where he routinely had over 100 tackles and at least 15 sacks.
In short, no matter how great Jeffcoats was, he simply couldn’t compete with the best at his position at the time.
