2021 NFL Mock Draft, post-free agency: Browns land Micah Parsons, Falcons shock with Kyle Pitts
By Randy Gurzi
So far, the Atlanta Falcons have been rather quiet in free agency but they did make one significant move. Atlanta restructured the contract of quarterback Matt Ryan to drastically lower his cap hit this season. He will still count quite a bit going forward but this move clearly was made with the intention of him being with the team in 2021.
With that being the case, new head coach Arthur Smith seems ready to trot out the veteran signal-caller rather than going after a rookie. While Justin Fields and Trey Lance would be tempting here, the restructure makes it seem more likely that they could look to add some elite talent around Matty Ice in an effort to make one last run with him under center.
Now on the clock at No. 4, the Falcons land a playmaker to help Ryan in Florida tight end Kyle Pitts. With Julio Jones, Calvin Ridley, and Hayden Hurst already on the roster, it might feel like a stretch to add Pitts but he’s clearly an upgrade over Hurst — although no disrespect is meant to Hurst in the slightest. He proved to be a great find for them but Pitts is more athletic and could really open up that offense.
There is a little risk involved here since they could stand to get better on defense but the talent Pitts has is too much to pass on.
