Green Bay Packers: 3 Biggest needs after free agency
By Lucas Schuh
Green Bay Packers biggest remaining need No. 1: Interior Defensive Line
Much like at cornerback, Green Bay has one of the best interior defensive linemen in the league in Kenny Clark but the quality of the players around him and on the depth chart is lacking. Clark is a do-it-all defensive tackle that is both effective against the run and dangerous as a pass-rusher up the middle.
Of late, we’ve seen the Packers trot out many different possible answers alongside Clark but they’ve yet to find a legitimate solution. Dean Lowry is arguably the best interior defensive lineman outside of Clark but his best days are clearly behind him. Plus, he’s never been a pass-rushing presence either.
Green Bay never had the opportunity to sign any of the bigger-named defensive tackles on the free agency market this offseason due to their cap constraints and the fact that the market exploded a bit. Thus, their attention should again be turned to the draft to address their need in the trenches.
While many consider the 2021 NFL Draft to be a bit shallow at defensive tackle, there are some players who could help Green Bay, especially if they get aggressive to address the need. Christian Barmore and Alim McNeil are arguably the two best at the position and would make sense for the Pack. Adding either player would certainly make Clark a happy man.
