The Jacksonville Jaguars have the No. 1 overall pick and it’s no secret who they’re taking with the top spot in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Has there ever been a more obvious No. 1 overall pick in an NFL Draft? This is a good thing for the Jacksonville Jaguars, as it makes their decision easy and there’s been little to no hot takes regarding who the Jags should take.

Even when Peyton Manning was entering the draft in 1998, there was still buzz around eventual No. 2 pick Ryan Leaf. Even when Andrew Luck was the likely No. 1 pick in 2012, Robert Griffin III was discussed as being an option for the Colts.

Never has it been like this though. It’s never been a consensus for pretty much everyone that one guy is going No. 1 and that’s what’s going to happen, but that’s how good Trevor Lawrence is and the hype that people praise him with.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are taking Trevor Lawrence No. 1 overall and that’s that.

Perhaps part of why people aren’t talking about this much is that it’s the Jaguars with the top pick in the draft. The Jaguars aren’t exactly America’s team. They don’t play in big games and are one of the smaller cities that has an NFL team. For them to be relevant, they have to be good and play in the big games (they were in the AFC Championship Game just three years ago, for what it’s worth).

Had the New York Jets held the top pick in the draft, we’d definitely be hearing more about the top pick in the draft. The Jets are in one of the biggest cities in America and well — People love to pile on the Jets because they’ve been a big train wreck in recent years. The Jaguars aren’t as fascinating to people despite their also mostly bad track record.

Another reason there’s no buzz surrounding Lawrence not going No. 1 is that it’s basically been a foregone conclusion that he’d be going first overall in this draft ever since he led Clemson to a National Championship title as a freshman. Fans have been anticipating this moment ever since and now that it’s finally here, there’s no surprise here.

The Jaguars shouldn’t care about the lack of discussion surrounding their top pick though. It means they’re making the right decision and this is an organization that hasn’t been great when it comes to doing just that.

dark. Next. Mock Draft: 49ers Land Jones, Pitts to Giants

Jacksonville is going to get the best player in the 2021 NFL Draft and if all goes according to plan, he’ll make them a more relevant team.
