Dallas Cowboys: 5 Sleepers to target in 2021 NFL Draft
By Randy Gurzi
4. Garret Wallow, LB, TCU
One of the best linebackers to ever play for the Dallas Cowboys decided to call it a career this week as Sean Lee hung up the cleats after 11 seasons. He finished with 802 tackles, four sacks, 14 interceptions, and 30 pass defenses.
Unfortunately, he also missed a ton of time due to injuries which was tough to watch considering how easy he was to root for. As for what’s left on the field, the Cowboys now have Jaylon Smith and Leighton Vander Esch as the only experienced linebackers.
Behind them, they have Francis Bernard, Luke Gifford, and Azur Kamara who will be fighting for a spot on the roster. Considering none of those players have shown what they can do at the next level, the Cowboys will likely add more depth in the draft.
However, they don’t have to add a player early — and they really shouldn’t. Instead, they need to be patient and look for a sleeper later on such as Garret Wallow from TCU. Wallow is a player who makes a lot of sense in this pass-happy NFL as he’s a former safety who moved to linebacker during his sophomore season.
He still moves like a safety and is a solid weapon in coverage. He’s also a consistent tackler who has 287 tackles in the past three seasons since moving to linebacker. He’s not getting the attention he deserves but will make some team very happy.
