3. Jacksonville Jaguars: Trevor Lawrence reunites with Travis Etienne

Despite the success of James Robinson, Urban Meyer opted to add a guy he knows will add an explosive element missing from his backfield. Travis Etienne’s one-cut ability and explosive first step allow him to exploit gaps. Once in the open field, he’s liable to take it the distance.

Don’t let his speed fool you into thinking he’s just an outside runner, though. He has excellent contact balance and power despite his size.

We all know how good Etienne is as a runner. But Meyer will line him up at wide receiver throughout rookie minicamp, fine-tuning his route-running will make him a better weapon for Lawrence.

As a teammate to Lawrence, Ettienne was a lightning rod for the Clemson offense. On RPOs, he froze defenders in their tracks and forced defensive ends to crash. As a result, Lawrence often escaped on the backside for big runs and/or touchdowns.

Etienne and Lawrence’s connection isn’t the same as other duos on the list. However, having a running back who’s also a security blanket on third-downs is a major plus for a rookie quarterback. Expect immediate success for this tandem because it’s easier for running backs to transition from college to the pros.
