Shannon Sharpe put Julio Jones, Falcons in an uncomfortable situation
Shannon Sharpe called Julio Jones on live TV and how it went down put the All-Pro and the Atlanta Falcons in an uncomfortable situation.
For those who simply see him as a television personality, FOX Sports 1’s Shannon Sharpe is actually one of the best players in NFL history. A seventh-round pick from Savannah State with Hall of Fame stats as a member of the Denver Broncos and Baltimore Ravens and a knack for talking, including asking for restitution on Hard Knocks in 2001 following a prank.
However, Sharpe now finds himself in a bit of controversy. In a recent episode of FS1’s Undisputed, Sharpe pulled out a phone on live television in front of co-host Skip Bayless and called Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones to ask him about the recent news of Jones potentially moving on from the Falcons.
What happened next will either have you laughing or shaking your head.
Jones’ words, “I’m outta here,” speak volumes given how revered he is within the franchise and helped them reach a Super Bowl in 2016. But the real question is whether Jones knew he was on live TV when he spoke with Sharpe?
Nonetheless, this is not a good look for him or his current team. However, Sharpe also bares some culpability in this situation.
Shannon Sharpe may have had good intentions but the Julio Jones situation is not a good look.
There’s also a legal issue that could potentially come about as a result of this. For one, if this was not pre-arranged in any way, shape, or form, then there is a serious problem. California law states that “conversations in which one of the parties has an objectively reasonable expectation that no one is listening in or overhearing the conversation.”
Not only that, but it also puts a damper on FOX Sports and the NFL itself. If Jones and Sharpe had pre-arranged this, then it’s not that big of a deal; if not, though, the Hall of Famer might have added a stain on his resume, and it’s not the one you want. Also, FOX Sports could face severe consequences as a result of this.
Repercussions, if at all, have not been determined yet, and those details will likely be released soon. For now, “Unc,” as Sharpe is affectionately known through his peers, might have done something that could impact Julio and his relationship with the only franchise he has ever played for and mortgaged the future to acquire. Yikes.
