2021 NFL Quarterback Power Rankings: How far ahead is Patrick Mahomes?
By Randy Gurzi
29. Zach Wilson, New York Jets
One team that made a move for a new quarterback this offseason was the New York Jets. After giving up on Sam Darnold — and head coach Adam Gase — the Jets decided it was time to (again) turn the page.
Both moves were made for the right reason as Darnold needed a change of scenery after what he went through with Gase and if we are being honest, Gase never should have been hired after the way he destroyed the Miami Dolphins.
Thankfully for Jets fans, they have a talented new head coach in Robert Saleh will now have a new quarterback as they took Zach Wilson second overall out of BYU. Wilson should have no problem winning the starting job this coming season but the rookie is going to have a tough time getting acclimated to the NFL.
Not only did he have just one season with great numbers in college but he’s also going to be playing in one of the toughest markets in all of sports. On top of that, this is a team that’s been bad for a very long time, so the pressure will be even greater.
Wilson has the makings of an NFL starter but 2021 is going to be a season full of growing pains for him.
