NFL Power Rankings, Week 1: Dolphins hurt by trade talk, Bears look foolish
By Randy Gurzi
Trailing 24-10, the New York Jets found a way back into their game against the Eagles in their preseason finale and ended up with a tie 31-31. Down by eight in the final moments, they connected on a Hail Mary from James Morgan to Kenny Yeboah to pull within two. Josh Adams ran in a conversion to tie things up and with no overtime in the preseason, that was all she wrote.
Of course, neither team was playing their star players since it was the finale but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t fun. And the Jets are a team that could use just about any positive thing they can find to help them this season, especially after some of the injuries they have suffered (they have lost both Carl Lawson and Vinny Curry which is a huge blow to the defense).
Their offense will end up needing to do a little more to make up for the loss of their defensive ends, which could be a tall order for a team being led by several youngsters including quarterback Zach Wilson.
Things were already going to be tough for rookie head coach Robert Saleh before the injuries but he does have the defensive acumen to find a way to stay competitive on that side. But staying competitive isn’t enough for them to contend in the AFC East in 2021.
New York is trending in the right direction, but the pendulum is just barely starting to get moved.
