Chicago Bears Running Backs

RB1: David Montgomery

Montgomery did some extra work in preparation for the 2021 season. He wants to have a breakout season that everyone around the league will notice. He finished fifth in rushing last season but it seemed like he didn’t exist outside of Chicago.

RB2: Tarik Cohen

The Bears have been silent about Cohen’s recovery from ACL surgery. Word at camp is that the team feels he’ll be ready for Week 1. With Week 1 less than two weeks away, they should have a good idea on that.

RB3: Damien Williams

Williams hasn’t done a whole lot during the preseason games but that could be because the Bears feel confident in what they have. The work he did get in the games is likely as a result of trying to get rid of the rust. Williams opted out of the 2020 season so he needed a few snaps to get that feeling back.

RB4: Khalil Herbert

Herbert has been an eye-opener in camp. He also made some impressive runs in the preseason. If Cohen isn’t ready for the start of the season, Herbert should take over his gadget position. He has the explosiveness speed to break through on the ground and make plays after the catch. He’ll utilize that mostly on special teams to start the season, however.

Note: If Artavis Pierce clears waivers he’ll be on the practice squad. If Cohen misses an extended period of time, Pierce will make the roster.
