NFL teams trimmed their rosters to 53 players on Tuesday, and there were some names the Dallas Cowboys should be interested in claiming

Just like every other team in the NFL, the Dallas Cowboys had to cut their roster down to 53-players on Tuesday.

Some of the more surprising moves ended up being the release of both Ben DiNucci and Garrett Gilbert. Neither of them really stood out during the preseason, but it was a surprise to see Dallas stick with just Cooper Rush behind Dak Prescott — although there are some veteran options out there including Cam Newton to consider.

With all the moves done, the next step is scouring the waiver wire to see if any players out there could replace one that might still be on the fringe. Here we look at five such prospects that the Cowboys should consider.

5. Charles Snowden could be a solid EDGE for Dallas Cowboys

A former team captain for Virginia, Charles Snowden was an intriguing prospect due to his long frame. Listed at 6-foot-6 and 243 pounds, with 35-inch arms, Snowden looked the part of an NFL edge rusher and stood out on special teams due to his knack for blocking kicks. Still, he ended up going undrafted and was signed by the Chicago Bears — where he was unable to make the initial roster.

In the preseason, Snowden flashed some potential as he had six tackles and two sacks in three games. He might have been playing against reserves but he still showed some promise.

Chicago would likely want him back on their practice squad but Dallas could be interested as well. He’s not a prototypical defensive end but defensive coordinator Dan Quinn has found success with “tweeners” in a designated pass rusher role. Snowden could be worth a look to see if he can work in this role for Dallas.
