The Dallas Cowboys want to put a rough campaign behind them and in order to do so, they will need to see these 5 players emerge as stars in 2021.

The Dallas Cowboys will be in the spotlight when the 2021 season kicks off, but they wouldn’t have it any other way.

Dallas opens the year on the road with a Thursday Night Football contest against the defending NFL champs, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It’s exactly how team owner Jerry Jones would want it and it adds to all the attention he’s already finagled ahead of this campaign.

So far, the Cowboys were featured on the HBO series Hard Knocks and even opened the preseason against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the annual Hall of Fame Game.

Unfortunately, they have yet to prove they’re anything more than a big name. Dallas lost every preseason game, which normally doesn’t matter except for when they looked bad in every facet of the game. They’re also fresh off a 6-10 season which had plenty of excuses as well.

Now looking to put all that behind them and play well, they could use some help from these five players who could emerge as stars.

Dallas Cowboys breakout player No. 5: Donovan Wilson, Safety

For years, the Dallas Cowboys have thrown darts at the safety position hoping something would stick. They never really wanted to use their high draft picks or spend much in free agency and that just led to one frustrating attempt after another to find a diamond in the rough.

Well now as we head into 2021, they might have actually found one in Donovan Wilson. A sixth-round pick from Texas A&M back in 2019, Wilson came on strong as 2020 went along. He finished the year with 71 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and two interceptions.

As well as he played, he’s still not considered a star in the NFL. 2021 could change that as he’s got a new defensive coordinator in Dan Quinn, who has a history of getting the most out of his defensive backs. Should Quinn help him take it up a notch, Wilson could become a household name.
