20. New England Patriots: Treylon Burks, WR, Arkansas

One team that made a lot of waves during roster cut-downs was the New England Patriots. In a bit of a surprising move, they decided to release veteran quarterback Cam Newton once he had lost his starting job to rookie Mac Jones.

While it was clear that Jones simply fit the offensive scheme run by Josh McDaniels better, Newton still had plenty in the tank and could have been a solid backup. With him out, the team will now be all about Mac Jones — and they’re going to need to keep building around him.

That’s why this pick is used to land Treylon Burks from Arkansas. Not your ordinary wideout, Burks is listed at 6-foot-3 and 230-pounds. He looks more like a tight end than a receiver but he’s not just a big-bodied player who wins contested passes. He can also get deep, evidenced by his 16.2 yard per receptions career average.

New England did add Kendrick Bourne and Nelson Agholor in 2021 but each of them feels more like a Band-Aid than a long-term option. Burks, on the other hand, could become the favorite target for Jones as they look to rebuild this offense and become a threat in the AFC East once again.
