Chicago Bears: 3 Players to sign before Week 1 matchup vs. Rams
1. David DeCastro would help the Chicago Bears offensive line depth
If you haven’t noticed, the Bears’ offensive line isn’t necessarily a great wall. The right side of the line, particularly the right tackle, is proof in and of itself.
Additionally, with Teven Jenkins out for a period of time due to a back injury, the Bears made it a point to go after Jason Peters, a 39-year-old with Hall of Fame credentials but an aging body.
So what do the Bears do now? Well, it would be wise to give David DeCastro a call. At first glance, his résume is impressive and he is a Pro-Bowler. But he plays the guard position, so how can he move to tackle all of a sudden?
The answer is quite simple. Offensive line coach Juan Castillo is known to help his players excel, and bringing in a former Pro Bowl player like DeCastro can only help the team. Of the three on this list, DeCastro would have the best chance to be a Week 1 starter.
Moreover, need we remind everyone who leads the Rams defensive line? That would be one Aaron Donald, a player who was so close to becoming a Bears had the Rams not taken him a pick earlier, forcing the Bears to settle for Kyle Fuller, not a bad consolation prize, but given what Donald has become, Chicago would have rather taken him. Nonetheless, whatever it takes to help contain Donald and keep the quarterback upright helps, and DeCastro can help with that.
