NFL Power Rankings, Week 2: Saints blow by Packers, Kyler and Cardinals shine
By Randy Gurzi
Sometimes, the NFL schedule makers seem like they just want to have fun. One example is the fact that they had the New York Jets playing in Carolina in Week 1. That meant the Jets had to face Sam Darnold, who they traded away this offseason.
Darnold was the No. 3 overall pick in 2018 and the Jets believed he would be their guy. However, Darnold and the entire Jets roster was run into the ground by Adam Gase. Even with Gase being the major problem, New York elected for a fresh start as they traded Darnold to Carolina and went with rookie Zach Wilson.
After one week, Darnold has the upper hand.
In his debut with Carolina, he was calm and efficient as he and another former Jets player, Robby Anderson, connected on a 57-yard touchdown that catapulted them to a win.
For New York, there were some good things to take from this game. Wilson did throw his first two NFL touchdowns and Corey Davis looked ready to be a No. 1 target, even pulling in a 22-yard touchdown from Wilson and an eight-yarder late that pulled it to 19-14 — although they couldn’t do enough to steal the win.
Unfortunately, things might not get much easier. They play at home against New England next week and their roster doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence at this point.
