3. Anthony Brown and Jourdan Lewis must show the Dallas Cowboys they deserve their spots

It stands to reason why the Dallas Cowboys would elect to give veterans Anthony Brown and Jourdan Lewis the majority of the secondary cornerback reps beyond Trevon Diggs. For as impressive as Nahshon Wright and Kelvin Joseph could be, they’re rookies who still have room for growth in their respective games.

Even with it being logical as to why Brown and Lewis were on the field so much, though, that doesn’t lessen how bad they were. Tom Brady picked on both players throughout the game, particularly when they were covering Antonio Brown and Chris Godwin in the slot as those two combined for 14 catches, 246 yards and two touchdowns.

The Chargers can present a similar challenge for the Cowboys in Week 2 as their best wide receiver, Keenan Allen, lines up in the slot quite often. He’s also one of the premier route-runners in the league, which puts the pressure on Brown and Lewis because Herbert and the LA coaching staff surely saw how they performed in the season-opener.

Brown and Lewis have both sporadically played decently throughout their careers. But with young corners knocking on the door behind them, they must provide a better showing than they did in Week 1 if they want to keep their jobs and, more pressingly, help the Cowboys get a win over the Chargers.
