The Philadelphia Eagles are winners in Week 3 no matter the result of their Monday Night Football matchup with the rival Dallas Cowboys.

Of course, the Philadelphia Eagles would love to get one up on the rival Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football. There’s no love lost between the NFC East foes and Philly is considered to be an underdog in comparison to Dallas in the divisional race, even if they both enter the Week 3 tilt with 1-1 records.

But even if they don’t win — but even more so if they do — to cap off the third week of the 2021 NFL season, the Eagles have to feel like big winners. And that’s thanks to the Indianapolis Colts.

As fans will remember, Philadelphia traded quarterback Carson Wentz to Indianapolis for a 2021 third-round pick and a conditional 2022 NFL Draft pick. And it’s that 2022 selection that should have Eagles fans feeling good after Week 3.

Update on Philadelphia Eagles draft pick from the Colts in Carson Wentz trade.

The conditions of the 2022 pick are that, if Wentz plays 75 percent of the snaps for the Colts this season, it becomes a first-round pick. After leaving Week 2 early, Wentz returned for Week 3 and played 100 percent of the snaps, putting him at 97.55 percent for the season. That means, if the year ended today, Philadelphia would get the Colts’ 2022 first-round pick.

But even better for the Eagles is that Wentz playing hasn’t resulted in success. On Sunday, they lost to the Titans, dropping their record to 0-3 on the season, obviously tying them for the worst mark in the league to this point.

As one of only five teams that have yet to record a win in 2021, that means the Philadelphia Eagles would currently be getting a top-five pick back in the Wentz trade. That’s a massive, massive win for a franchise that already has two first-round picks (their own and Miami’s) in the 2022 draft.

Even more promising for Eagles fans looking towards next year’s draft is the fact that the Colts look broken. Not only are key injuries piling up for Indianapolis but they haven’t looked good on the field either. Things could change, but Philadelphia already looks like massive winners from the Wentz trade.
