New York Giants: Daniel Jones replacements and other 2022 prospects

5. Zach Charbonnet, RB, UCLA

It’s time for the Giants to look for an insurance policy for Saquon Barkley. Barkley is a do-it-all back who’s always dinged up or hurt. Sure, they can go with a free agent, however, getting a tone-setter who can carry the load makes sense for the G-Men. UCLA’s Zach Charbonnet is the perfect running mate for Barkley.

The 6-1 220-pound back is a one-cut runner. He shows patients and the ability to exploit creases. The Bruins runner displayed good power and contact balance. He’s a physical runner who’ll fight for yards. He knows how to scrape and slide across the line and get through the trash.  On third downs, he’s a reliable option with soft hands, and pass blocking ability.

He’ll set the tone on offense with his tenacious running style. The power running back moves the chain and can carry the load on any offense. He’s a three-down back who’ll either help Barkley or help the Giants move on. With Barkley having one year left on his deal, getting an insurance policy should be on the table.

Charbonnet is a Top 75 prospect the Giants should have on the draft board. If he keeps playing the way he is, he could hear his name called early than the third round.
