Green Bay Packers: 3 Players to trade for ahead of deadline

3. DT Andrew Billings (Cleveland Browns)

If there’s one particular area of which the Green Bay Packers are insignificant, it’s on the defensive line.

Though the Packers run a 3-4 defensive scheme, with the linebackers serving as the playmakers in this front, outside of nose tackle Kenny Clark, the interior line for Green Bay simply does not exist. Opposing running backs are averaging 4.5 yards per rush attempt (25th in the NFL per Pro-Football-Reference) and the reason for this is because the three down-linemen can’t penetrate.

To put it in the simplest words possible, the Packers need run-stoppers in the trenches.

Knock-knock, it’s a 6’1″, 328-pound tank that could provide Green Bay with a natural run-stopper. Ahead of the 2021 NFL season, Billings looked to be a starter on the defensive line for the Cleveland Browns, but the rise of players in their depth chart has limited his reps on the field. Because of this, the veteran tackle will come at a fantastically low price.

The Cheeseheads are on a streak of taking players who teams no longer care for and turning them into elite producers (i.e., DeVondre Campbell). If they can repeat their successes at molding gems, this will certainly be a low-cost move that provides much-needed help.

Billings is a competitor, and he plays with a chip on his shoulder. With doubters in Cleveland holding him back, he wants to break out in a big way and help a team that wants him to make it all the way. What better place to do it than Titletown?
