NFL: Ranking every quarterback midseason: 27. Jared Goff – Detroit Lions
Jared Goff was in jeopardy of getting benched before he put together a good performance against his former team the Los Angeles Rams. Still, he’s on the chopping block for the foreseeable future for the winless Detroit Lions. It wasn’t like he was great against the Rams, he just wasn’t embarrassing. Goff is hardly the only problem in Detroit, but the former number-one overall pick is far from the solution.
Goff hasn’t shown the skills that led to the massive extension he signed with the Rams while with the Lions. He’s still making strange mistakes and hasn’t really instilled confidence in the Lions fanbase. It’s not hard to see why. The Lions are winless, and Goff was a throw in for the Matthew Stafford trade.
Goff has a long way to go before he moves up this list, and he has to prove he’s not going to get benched. There might be a new Lions quarterback on this list entirely. Who is the Lions backup quarterback?
It’s former Purdue quarterback David Blough. It looks like it will be a long time before the Lions have a quarterback that was consistently as high as Stafford was.
