2021 NFL Trade Deadline: 3 defensive ends Dallas Cowboys should target
By Randy Gurzi
Dallas Cowboys target No. 1: Trey Flowers
So far, it feels fair to say Trey Flowers has not had the best tenure with the Detroit Lions. He followed his former defensive coordinator Matt Patricia, who took the job in Detroit and then signed his former New England star to a five-year, $90 million contract.
The Lions struggled mightily under Patricia, who is now back in New England, and replaced him with Dan Campbell this season. Campbell hasn’t been an upgrade at all, as they’re still looking for that elusive first win.
Flowers has also had a rough go, moving to outside linebacker in a new scheme. He’s registered just 22 tackles and 1.5 sacks in six games which is a far cry from what his salary suggests.
With that being the case, it would make sense for Detroit to try and ship off a player with a high salary such as Flowers in an effort to free up space and add assets for the future.
Dallas would be wise to see what it would take because Flowers would be an excellent fit on their line. He’s capable against the run and pass and at 265-pounds, Dan Quinn would be able to move him all around the line.
Flowers could be the player who takes the Cowboys defense to the next level and right now, he could be affordable.
