Chicago Bears: 5 Players who need to step up vs Steelers in Week 9
Larry Borom, Offensive Tackle
Here is another guy on the line, but this one is on the offensive side. Larry Borom returned from a high ankle sprain he suffered in Week 1. Instead of resuming his backup left tackle duties, however, the coaches moved him to right tackle. The starter, Germain Ifedi, is on injured reserve. His backup, Elijah Wilkinson, was coming off the COVID list. The coaches felt more comfortable with Borom there and took a chance.
It didn’t help that Borom had to spend most of last week’s game going up against one of the top pass rushers in the NFL, Nick Bosa. He handled his own, however. He did allow a sack and two quarterback pressures, but other than that he had a clean game.
Borom likely has another tough matchup. T.J. Watt. Watt likely works his way towards Borom and gives him another test.
The Chicago Bears are high on Borom. They hope he is the future of the offensive line. He could hold onto the right tackle starting job. He may even end up as the starting left tackle after Jason Peters leaves. The way he plays the rest of the season will go a long way to see if he indeed is the future and a big part of the offensive success. It all begins with how he does this week.
