Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth is going to be a popular fantasy waiver wire pickup after a breakout Monday Night Football performance.

Fantasy football managers everywhere are scrambling to the free agent pool during the Pittsburgh Steelers and Chicago Bears matchup on Monday Night Football to find out whether or not Steelers rookie tight end Pat Freiermuth is available.

Freiermuth, who has had some nice moments already in his rookie season, is having himself a breakout game against the Chicago Bears.

He has doubled his season total of receiving touchdowns with a pair of scores before the start of the fourth quarter against Chicago.

Touchdown number one

Freiermuth’s first touchdown capped off a red zone trip for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Ben Roethlisberger found the former Penn State star on a “scramble” drill.

Freiermuth found a way to make himself available on a third down play and Roethlisberger found him, a clear sign of the trust being built between these two over the last couple of weeks.

If you’re a savvy fantasy player, you might have already taken a flyer on Pat Freiermuth this week considering the fact that in his last two games, Roethlisberger has targeted him 14 total times.

He was targeted just 13 times in the previous five games he played combined.

This kind of scramble drill touchdown is a very clear sign that Roethlisberger is starting to favor the rookie, and it certainly helps that Eric Ebron isn’t playing in this game as well.

Touchdown number two

Freiermuth is capable of scoring on more than just scramble drill. He was nicknamed “Baby Gronk” early on in his time at Penn State, and while that nickname has been thrown around a little too loosely over the last decade for a variety of players, he certainly looked a bit like Gronk on this play.

Body control, hands, leaping ability, timing, concentration — this play has it all.

Pat Freiermuth leads the Steelers with five targets and four receptions at the time of this writing, and it’s only a matter of time before the Steelers are able to get him more involved in terms of creating in space and getting yardage after the catch.

The decision to take Freiermuth, at the time he was drafted, was a bit curious for Pittsburgh but it’s best just to never question what this team is doing in terms of selecting offensive skill players and pass catchers, in particular.

This guy looks like he is on his way to being an absolute star and is a perfect fit for Pittsburgh.
