Dallas Cowboys Round 5 pick: Khalil Shakir, Jr., WR, Boise State

Michael Gallup and Cedrick Wilson will each be headed for free agency this offseason and chances are, they won’t be able to retain Gallup. As much as they would love to keep their trio of Gallup, CeeDee Lamb, and Amari Cooper together, he has enough talent to command a big contract even after missing so much time this season with a knee injury.

Wilson, on the other hand, could be retained at an affordable rate and has proven to be more than capable of filling the No. 3 role. With him potentially in that role beyond this year, they add another weapon to bolster the depth chart — and they head to Wilson’s alma mater to do so as they take Khalil Shakir from Boise State.

Shakir has 844 yards and five touchdowns in the first nine games of 2021 and should be able to record 1,000-yards for the first time in his career. The Broncos have also lined him up in the backfield as Shakir has recorded 68 career rushes for 375 yards and four touchdowns. If that wasn’t enough, he also has some experience as a returner, which makes him even more valuable in Dallas.

Dallas Cowboys Round 6 pick: John Michael Schmitz, IOL, Minnesota

It’s been no secret that Tyler Biadasz has been an issue for Dallas in the middle of their offensive line. He’s had some issues with snaps and has been pushed around by some of the stronger defensive tackles.

While it might not be time to give up completely on the second-year player, the Cowboys should add some competition. That’s why John Michael Schmitz from Minnesota is selected with their fifth-round pick.

Schmitz is listed at 6-foot-4 and 320-pounds giving him plenty of size to deal with the bigger defensive linemen he will face. He’s also had plenty of starts with the Gophers, making him an experienced option that could, at the very least, push Biadasz.
