NFL: Ranking the worst QB Chemistry in the league: 13. Matt Ryan to Mike Davis – Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons brought in two running backs this offseason hoping to help revamp the offense. After trading away Julio Jones, they needed a new narrative surrounding Matt Ryan. The Falcons drafted Kyle Pitts, who was the most dynamic weapon in the draft, and they signed Mike Davis and Cordarrelle Patterson. Patterson was supposed to be a gadget player who really helped special teams and did a few things on offense. He ended up being one of the best weapons in the league.

Mike Davis has not been the same positive experience. He showed a really good dual-threat ability when he replaced Christian McCaffrey last season. It looked like now that he had one season with an increased workload, he could do it again as the main starter. Nope. Davis has no games with more than 55 rushing yards and he has never had more than 25 yards receiving.

Davis just didn’t come as advertised. He wasn’t able to take advantage of open space, and Arthur Smith hasn’t been able to find the right role for him in this offense. It was an experiment that just didn’t work. The Falcons haven’t had the right running back in what seems like a really long time.
