NFL teams that regret passing on Gardner Minshew

2. Denver Broncos

The Denver Broncos struck a trade the day before the 2021 NFL Draft for a quarterback, but it wasn’t Gardner Minshew.

It was veteran Teddy Bridgewater, who certainly has more time on task as an NFL quarterback than Minshew, but certainly wasn’t as high-upside of a move.

General manager George Paton probably doesn’t overly regret trading a low pick for Teddy Bridgewater, who has helped the Broncos to a 6-6 record so far in the 2021 season (already an improvement on their 2020 record.

Bridgewater has been an upgrade over Drew Lock, but it’s hard to ignore the wisdom in trading for Minshew and having him battle it out with those two guys throughout the offseason.

Minshew had two years left on his rookie contract going into this season. He played very well against Vic Fangio’s defense as a rookie in 2019.

The Broncos had draft selections to play with and Minshew would probably be starting for them at this point. Heck, he may even be thriving with all of the weapons the Broncos have in place.
