Tashaun Gipson, Safety

One of the biggest disappointments on the Chicago Bears defense is the secondary. The combination of bad pass coverage and missed tackling resulted in a lot of big plays against the defense.

The roster has a few holes and the secondary is one of them. Eddie Jackson has gotten flack for his tackling but he’s had an under-the-radar season. Yes, he’s had his share of missed tackles, but he was never a great form tackler. He has, however, done a good job this season. Despite missing two games, he still ranks third on the defense in tackles.

While Jackson’s role on the team is nearly guaranteed, his running mate’s fate isn’t. Tashaun Gipson has missed three games himself. There have been times when he also had some ugly missed tackles. Many people missed it because of the attention given to Jackson’s misses.

Gipson has not had the impact the Bears need from him. The safety position has been undervalued in recent years. Teams can pick up a strong safety at a good value. Also, there are good options in the draft like Jordan Battle, Jalen Catalon, and Brandon Joseph.

The Chicago Bears need to return to the days they had good hard hitters with good technique. That means they need to say goodbye to Gipson.
