No. 3: CB Kevin King

King’s return to the team after the 2020 NFL season was bittersweet for fans. While everybody and their mother blasted him for his infamous blown coverage against Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver, Scotty Miller, in the NFC Championship, his resigning would give the Green Bay Packers more depth at the corner position, as well as familiarity with what he can bring to the table, albeit nothing special.

As the season has progressed, however, the same story is on repeat for Kevin King who continues to battle injuries that limit him to the sideline. In 2021, King has played in just six games for the green and gold. In those six games, he has been as reliable as a Chrysler Pacifica.

Opposing quarterbacks always look for mismatches, and just about any receiver Kevin King has had to cover has been a mismatch. When he’s been on the field this year, he’s allowed 17 receptions on 26 targets (65.4% completion) and has an opposing quarterback rating of 103.8 when targeted (per pro-football-reference).

While Kevin King may be the one player most Packers fans are willing to let go, it will still leave the secondary without depth at the position. Outside of Alexander, there are zero names that pop out to you unless you know this roster more than your own neighbors. King may not be much, but he’s something. And that something likely won’t be back in 2022.
