Purdue defensive end George Karlaftis (5) warms up prior to a NCAA football game between the Purdue Boilermakers and the Oregon State Beavers, Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021 in West Lafayette. 2022 NFL Mock Draft /

EDGE. Purdue. 31. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. George Karlaftis. 5. player

5. New York Giants: George Karlaftis, DE, Purdue

At pick No. 5, the New York Giants have their first of two selections. One of the many teams needing a new coach — after firing Joe Judge — the Giants’ focus could change depending on who they hire. If they go with an offensive-minded coach, they might want to focus on that side of the ball, maybe even look at moving on from Daniel Jones.

However, without knowing who that coach is we go with George Karlaftis who fits a major need. New York needs a bully at defensive end and the 275-pound Boilermaker can be exactly that.

Alabama. Scouting Report. 6. player. 87. Pick Analysis. OT. Evan Neal

6. Carolina Panthers: Evan Neal, OT, Alabama

If there were still any fans that believed in Matt Rhule as the Carolina Panthers head coach, he may have changed their mind already this offseason. Rhule fired Joe Brady in-season as he decided to make him a scapegoat for their failures. Then to replace him, he went with Ben McAdoo, the same man who inexplicably went mobster with his hair in the middle of his epically bad run as the head coach of the New York Giants.

While we can’t fix that with this mock, we can try and improve their offensive line, which is a mess — unliked McAdoo’s incredible hair. They’re fortunate here too as Evan Neal ends up sliding to No. 6 which means the Panthers get the best tackle in the class.

Listed at 6-foot-7 and 345-pounds, Neal is a mountain of a man but he still has impressive athleticism which allows him to handle both the speed and power rushers.
