NFL Offseason 2022: Dallas Cowboys on the move for 2022

Ezekiel Elliott, RB

After his first four seasons in the NFL, Elliott had 5,405 total yards and was running through everyone in the NFL.

Since then, Elliott has rushed for 979 yards in 2020 and 1,002 yards in 2021.

Looking further into his rushing career, Elliott’s rush attempts per game have steadily gone down every year since 2017, and his yards per carry haven’t been as good, either.

While he’s still a top back, his long-term outlook on Dallas is unknown, at best.

Zeke stays healthy and has had at least 1,200 yards from scrimmage every year of his career, so even though he hasn’t produced all that much the past two seasons, he still does to a degree.

However, his massive contract and running mate Tony Pollard may spell the end of his tenure in Dallas.

I don’t think a team would trade for his massive contract, so perhaps Dallas would have to restructure his deal before trading, but I think a trade is very possible.

A post-June 1 trade could save the Cowboys a little over $12 million against their cap. His cap number also nearly triples from 2021 to 2022, rising to around $18 million.

Some teams could use a boost at running back.  The Miami Dolphins are one of them, for example. I personally think Ezekiel Elliott still has some solid years left, but they might not be in Dallas.
