Jordan Love trade destination no. 2: Washington Commanders

Throughout their franchise’s history, Washington has had some of the best QBs in the history of the NFL. Early in their history, they have had the likes of Sammy Baugh and Sonny Jurgensen, both of whom have been inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame, but since those all-time greats have retired, they have struggled to find their next franchise QB.

Things have gotten so bad that the last QB to start four consecutive seasons for Washington was Mark Rypien, who started from 1989-to 1993 and now has a son who plays in the NFL.

While Washington has struggled since Baugh and Jurgensen left, there seemingly was some light at the end of the tunnel. Washington drafted Robert Griffin III with their 2nd overall pick in the 2012 draft. RG3 took over the NFL in his rookie year and helped lead Washington to the playoffs, but sadly for him, he hurt his knee in the playoffs and had to get his ACL and LCL repaired.

RG3 was never able to regain the magic that he had in his rookie year as he struggled on the field and struggled with injuries. Griffins’ job would eventually be lost to a player who was drafted in the same draft as him, that player being Kirk Cousins.

Cousins was a pleasant surprise for Washington and their fans as he had multiple seasons of 4,000 plus yards with them and proved to be a quality QB. Things would quickly get bad once again as Cousins and Washington couldn’t agree on an extension after the 2017 season, which led to him landing with the Minnesota Vikings.

Since Cousins and RG3 left Washington, the franchise has started the likes of Alex Smith, Case Keenum, Dwayne Haskins, and most recently Taylor Heinicke. Being that Washington has struggled to find a franchise QB it’s not shocking that there have been reports saying Washington wants to fix their QB position for the long term and they are going about it very aggressively.

I’m not saying that Love will solve the Commanders’ QB position, but he has the potential to do so.

Washington might be somewhat forced into trading for Love if they want to fix their QB position as Rodgers has just signed with Green Bay, and there has been less and less news around other NFL QBs. So it might come down to if Washington wants to draft a QB or trade for Jordan Love.
