Jimmy Garoppolo trade proposal No. 1

Seattle Seahawks get:

Jimmy Garoppolo, QB

San Francisco 49ers get:

  • 40th Overall Pick
  • 2023 Third-Round Pick
  • Jacob Eason, QB

Trades within a division are rare, but they do happen. For example, when Tom Brady took over for Drew Bledsoe, the veteran was sent to the Buffalo Bills — and Bledsoe had mild success there. Also, the Philadelphia Eagles traded Donovan McNabb to the Washington Commanders when they decided to roll with Mike Vick. McNabb, however, did not have success.

Looking ahead to the 2022 season, there’s a team in the 49ers’ division that could use a new quarterback, the Seattle Seahawks. Right now, the Seahawks have Drew Lock as their starter and the only backup is Jacob Eason.

Lock has plenty of talent but he hasn’t done enough to prove he should be an unquestioned starter. While the ‘Hawks maintain he is their guy, others assume this means they’re simply tanking to rebuild. But with Pete Carroll turning 71 this season, a rebuild makes little sense.

That’s why it wouldn’t be a shock to see them go after Jimmy Garoppolo, who would be an upgrade over Lock.

Of course, since this is an in-division trade, Seattle has to offer more than anyone else to make it happen. Not only do they give up the 40th overall pick, but they also serve up their reserve quarterback and a future third as well.

This might seem like a lot for Garoppolo, but it would be hard for San Francisco to turn down, even if they have to play him twice per season.
