The Green Bay Packers completely ignored the wide receiver position and chose Devonte Wyatt with the 28th overall pick.

It looks like Green Bay Packers fans will have to wait until Day 2 of the 2022 NFL Draft for them to potentially select a wide receiver. After taking Quay Walker with their first choice, Green Bay chose to go with another defensive player.

In some ways, it’s a bit perplexing because the loss of Davante Adams certainly weakens the receiving core for Green Bay. At the same time, the defense had a tough time stopping the run, as evidenced by the playoff loss against San Francisco.

There is the ability to take solace knowing that several other talented receivers will be available in later rounds. That said, the Green Bay Packers choose to take Devonte Wyatt to help out their defense.

The Green Bay Packers choose to address their defensive line with the selection of Devonte Wyatt.

Last season, Georgia rode their dominant defense to a 14-1 season and a national championship. Wyatt played a crucial role with 39 total tackles and two forced fumbles. Not exactly the flashiest numbers, but given the amount of wealth across the board, it’s not a bad stat line.

The Packers are hoping that Wyatt can come in and make an impact in the run game while also providing an extra body to help put pressure on the opposing quarterback. Walker can help with tackling and coverage, while Wyatt can focus on dominating in the trenches.

Green Bay will undoubtedly need a receiver, and who that player turns out to be can only be determined by those in the Packers’ front office that makes the decisions.

There are still six rounds to go, and opportunities are scarce. Let’s watch and see how the Pack plays the rest of the game.
