Top NFL Free Agents for AFC West teams to sign
Denver Broncos – Kwon Alexander, ILB
The Denver Broncos have added studs to their defense this offseason, but they still have a hole with their inside linebacking unit.
The team is going to try Baron Browning off the edge, so that leaves a hole next to the other starting linebacker, Josey Jewell.
I think Browning is probably going to move into a Micah Parsons role, where he plays some off the edge and also plays some inside. For that reason, signing someone like Alexander, who has been a quality starter, makes sense.
He’d be rather inexpensive and has missed a ton of time due to injury, but he’s a nice compliment to Josey Jewell in that he’s an amazing athlete, while Jewell is more instinctual.
Los Angeles Chargers – Daryl Williams, RT
It doesn’t look like the Chargers have much of a right tackle presence on their roster. They drafted Zion Johnson who is an inside player, and also took Jamaree Salyer late, who is also more of an inside player.
Signing Daryl Williams, who has quality experience playing inside and out would be a nice addition to the Chargers’ offense.
He started all 33 games for the Bills last season and likely won’t return to the team.
Williams has been in the league since 2015 and has played for both the Bills and the Panthers.
Kansas City Chiefs – Jason Pierre-Paul
JPP could reunite with Steve Spagnuolo in Kansas City. They were together for a few years with the Giants.
The Chiefs desperately need some help off the edge, and while Pierre-Paul isn’t what he once was, he had 9.5 sacks in 2020 with the Buccaneers.
Pierre-Paul would also be able to compete for another ring being in Kansas City.
He’s got two rings himself and maybe, just maybe, could get some Hall of Fame consideration if he wins another ring.
JPP in Kansas City makes a ton of sense.
Las Vegas Raiders – Trae Waynes, CB
The Raiders have been busy this offseason, implementing a new coaching staff, swinging trades, and signing free agents.
They’ve greatly improved on their roster than went 10-7 last year, and could still use another player in the secondary.
Enter, Trae Waynes. Waynes is a former first-round pick of the Minnesota Vikings and missed all but five games the last two seasons because of injury.
Waynes has seven career interceptions along with 43 total passes defensed. He’s by no means elite, but could be a nice addition for a rising Raiders secondary.
