No. 24 NFL quarterback in 2022: Jameis Winston, New Orleans Saints

What are we to make of the start Jameis Winston had to the 2021 NFL season?

Winston was playing some lights out football for the Saints before a knee injury not only derailed his season but put his future with the franchise in jeopardy.

His recovery went well, the Saints obviously were pleased with what he showed last year, and the two sides agreed to a two-year deal worth $28 million.

Winston is coming back to a vastly different Saints team than a year ago.

The Saints said goodbye in the 2022 offseason to left tackle Terron Armstead and replaced him in the 2022 NFL Draft with Northern Iowa’s Trevor Penning.

They will welcome back a healthy Michael Thomas in 2022, and also added Ohio State’s Chris Olave to the wide receiver room along with veteran slot man Jarvis Landry.

With a strong defense at his back and Alvin Kamara at his side, all of the pieces are in place for Winston to continue to revive his career as a rival of the team that drafted him first overall in Tampa Bay.

The only issue at this point?

Sean Payton is no longer with the Saints. Dennis Allen has taken over and Pete Carmichael will be calling the plays for the Saints’ offense.

Can Winston come back strong from the ACL? The pieces on the roster are certainly in place.
