The Philadelphia Eagles are hungry for a division title this year. Will their recent acquisitions make the team a top-five defense?

Defending the endzone is a crucial element of football. When teams play well on defense, their chances of winning increase significantly.

A new wave of young talent has taken the NFL by storm, causing an increase in offensive production. Stars like Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, and Patrick Mahomes make earning a paycheck hard for defensive coordinators.

Before the season begins, it is up to the coaching staff to bring in talent to help achieve their season goals.

While other franchises draw up their plan, defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon has made moves to elevate his squad.

Philadelphia Eagles add depth in the 2022 draft

Philadelphia’s position in the 2022 NFL draft helped add to their defensive depth. The franchise used its five picks to rebuild its interior presence. Selections like Georgia’s Jordan Davis and Nakobe Dean were exactly what Nick Siriani’s team needed.

When together, the pair of bulldogs are known for causing havoc on the field. Their combined 14.5 career sacks are expected to transcend Philadelphia’s aging front seven.

Despite re-signing veteran Fletcher Cox, Philadelphia understands they need to improve their pass rush. According to statmuse.com, the Eagles finished at the bottom of the league in sacks last season.

Locking up opposing receivers will help Philadelphia create pressure in the pocket. Luckily, the Eagles already have one of the best corners in the league on their roster.

Darius Slay’s production as Philadelphia’s lone corner has been substantial enough to get the job done. Slay has accumulated the most pass breakups in the last six seasons. The corner with the second-highest total joined the team early Wednesday morning.

Eagles add  James Bradberry to their depth chart

News broke of the latest Eagles transaction early Wednesday morning. It was then when fans in the city of brotherly love heard the news of James Bradberry’s signing.

The former New York Giant has gained respect throughout the league for his ability to shut down highly skilled receivers. The lockdown corner has accumulated 15 interceptions in five seasons.

Defending the pass will be a strength of Siriani’s defense this season. The addition of young pass rushers and another lockdown corner has shifted the Eagles’ final projections this year. With the help of returning players, Philadelphia could be the team to watch in 2022.
