Limited cap space and Coach Payton’s uncertainty led to some missed opportunities this spring. what were the best moves the New Orleans Saints made?

New Orleans Saints top move no. 5: Moving up to get Chris Olave

If there was one area The New Orleans Saints needed to address in the offseason it was at wide receiver. On draft day they moved up five spots and gave up two extra picks to get their man.

He is fast; running a 4.39 40 at the combine. That kind of speed will come in handy on a team that struggled to move the ball vertically in 2021. Ohio State has placed plenty of talented receivers into the NFL. Chris Olave has the potential to be one of the best.

Olave is a talented route runner; good at creating separation and has a nose for the end zone as well. He finished his college career with the most receiving touchdowns in Ohio State History (35).

With Michael Thomas, Alvin Kamara, and Jarvis Landry on the field at the same time, he should see plenty of single coverage giving him an opportunity to make an immediate impact.

The biggest adjustment for him may come in terms of strength. He’s going to need to get bigger and stronger.

Run Blocking is a weakness for him and getting off press from seasoned NFL DBs may be challenging to being his career. With his speed though, if he can break through the press at the line it’ll be game over.
