Projecting next big quarterback contracts in the NFL
5. Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals
Joe Burrow and the Bengals’ remarkable run in 2021 was…. remarkable.
It was an unexpected season for Cincy, who went from being the worst team in the league two years ago to now a legitimate Super Bowl contender.
Their 10-7 regular season was furthered by playoff wins against the Raiders, Titans, and Chiefs, ultimately falling to the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl 56.
This was an uber-successful season for the Bengals and Joe Burrow.
Burrow led the league in completion percentage in 2021, but also took the most sacks and sack yards. The Bengals truly committed to Burrow this offseason, signing La’el Collins, Alex Cappa, and Ted Karras to bolster the o-line.
With their strong offseason, the Bengals should win another game or two this season. I think they’re the favorites to win the AFC North and should make another strong run.
This would mean that Burrow is set to receive a massive extension himself after the 2022 season.
Burrow was a 24 year old rookie, so he’ll already be 26 this season. The shelf life for quality quarterbacks is usually well into their 30s, so Burrow’s age shouldn’t have an impact on the deal he’ll sign.
