Biggest Seahawks weakness for 2022 NFL season: Quarterback

When the Seahawks drafted Russell Wilson in the 3rd round of the 2012 NFL draft, I don’t think they were expecting to get a player of his caliber.

At times, Wilson could have been considered the best QB in the NFL at one point, and at the least a top 3-5 QB. With Wilson in Seattle, the Seahawks made two Super Bowls and managed to win one of them.

Seattle won their first super bowl ever with Wilson while he was only in his 2nd season, and things looked very bright from there, but unfortunately, things would change.

During his first few seasons with the Seahawks, Wilson and the franchise were blessed with some incredible drafts.

Of course, Seattle landed Wilson in the 3rd round, but they also drafted the likes of All-Pro linebacker Bobby Wagner and All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman, not to mention an incredible safety duo in Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor.

Seattle also landed a quality receiver in the form of Doug Baldwin.

While the Seahawks drafted great initially, things slowed down from there on. The 2013 and 2014 drafts were big whiffs from Seattle, but they managed to right the ship with the picks of Tyler Lockett and Frank Clark in the 2015 draft.

From then on, things got pretty quiet as the Seahawks have some major draft misses and confusion, as there only real quality player they have drafted in recent years has been D.K Metcalf.

The major draft misses from Seattle took a major toll on the roster as the legion of boom eventually aged and or departed the team with nobody to replace them. It also didn’t help things that the Seahawks could never manage to put together an okay offensive line for Russell Wilson.

With a poor offensive line and a weakening defense, Russell Wilson slowly became unhappy.
Wilson never made it extremely publicly known that he wanted out, but rumors eventually surfaced that Wilson wanted to be traded.

The rumors cooled off eventually but rose again the following season, and this time something actually happened as Wilson was traded to the Denver Broncos.

In return, the Broncos received a handful of pieces and draft picks, but the most notable one, for better or for worse, was Drew Lock.

Lock was one of the many QBs that the Broncos drafted in the past few years who struggled in Denver. He had some injury misfortune to start off his NFL career, but when he did manage to make it onto the field, he struggled.

One of the main reasons he struggled was because he wasn’t able to make creative plays out of the pocket like he was able to at Missouri.

Lock is still young and has some time to maybe develop, but with how much he has struggled previously and with the other QB talent being Geno Smith, Seattle has a major issue at the QB position.
